Proteus Ocean Group has announced a major milestone in its mission to establish a permanent, modular underwater research habitat. In a joint briefing with the Fabien Cousteau Ocean Learning Center, the company confirmed that the first phase of its namesake habitat is on track for deployment off the coast of Curaçao by Q3 2026.
According to CEO , the wet-dock assembly in Spanish Water Bay, Curaçao, is 85% complete. The main pressure vessel will be submerged to 18 meters (60 feet) adjacent to a natural coral reef system. “We are not just building a habitat; we are building a permanent human presence in the ocean,” Delgado said. “Proteus will allow us to study long-term climate impacts, develop new marine pharmaceuticals, and train the next generation of aquanauts.”
