Maya bought hers the day after her third rejection email for a job she’d perfected five versions of her resume for. She lived in a 400-square-foot studio with a leaky faucet and a neighbor who practiced the bagpipes at 6 a.m. The headset arrived in a matte black box with a single instruction: “Think of a place. Then live there.” But it was real
