That muffled, “underwater” feeling long after you’ve left the pool is a familiar frustration for swimmers of all ages. While often harmless, a clogged ear after swimming can range from a minor annoyance to a painful infection. Understanding the difference is key to quick relief and avoiding complications. The Two Main Culprits: Water vs. Wax vs. Infection A clogged sensation can stem from three distinct issues, each requiring a different approach.

Use over-the-counter carbamide peroxide drops (e.g., Debrox) for 2–3 days to soften wax. Then gently rinse with warm water using a bulb syringe.
